Bangles – Walk Like An Egyptian (Live)

Walk Like an Egyptian è una canzone del gruppo musicale femminile The Bangles, pubblicato nel 1986 come singolo ed estratto dal loro album Different Light.
Il singolo fu un notevole successo in tutto il mondo, ed è a tutt’oggi uno dei brani più rappresentativi della carriera del gruppo.
Il titolo del brano fa riferimento all’immagine stereotipata degli antichi egizi nella cultura popolare, visti sempre di profilo e con le braccia piegate ad angolo retto (così come sono dipinti nelle rappresentazioni pittoriche e scolpiti nei bassorilievi dell’epoca).
Nel video, ovviamente, le quattro ragazze del gruppo ne fanno una comica e sexy pantomima.
Le tre strofe della canzone sono cantate in sequenza prima dalla leader del gruppo e chitarra solista Vicki Peterson, poi dalla bassista Michael Steele, e dopo l’assolo chitarristico di Vicki, infine dalla cantante ufficiale del gruppo e chitarrista ritmica Susanna Hoffs.
La percussionista Debbi Peterson si unisce ai cori.
Iconico è il coro “oh hey oh” cantato dalle tre del gruppo che non sono al momento cantanti soliste.
Così come iconico è anche il trascinante riff di basso della Steele.
