Il brano, scritto e composto dai membri della band Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, Daniel Platzman assieme a Robin Fredriksson e Mattias Larsson, è stato descritto dal frontman del gruppo Reynolds in un’intervista a Rolling Stone:
“Bones è un riflesso della mia costante ossessione per la finitezza e la fragilità della vita. Sono sempre alla ricerca di una prova che mi convinca che c’è ancora qualcosa da fare, che la vita è davvero eterna in un certo senso. Non avendola ancora trovata, cerco almeno di sognare come sarebbe la vittoria della vita sulla morte”

Il video musicale del singolo è stato pubblicato il 6 aprile 2022. Diretto da Jason Koenig, il videoclip si ispira alla regia di Martin Scorsese in The Wolf of Wall Street e al video del brano Thriller di Michael Jackson.
